AlgaeBase What is AlgaeBase?
AlgaeBase is a database of information on algae that includes terrestrial, marine and freshwater organisms. At present, the data for the marine algae, particularly seaweeds, are the most complete. For convenience, we have included the sea-grasses even though they are flowering plants.

Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources The Southern Ocean surrounds the continent of Antarctica and is clearly delimited by the Antarctic Convergence (or Polar Front), which is formed where cold Antarctic waters meet warmer waters to the north. The Antarctic Convergence acts as an effective biological barrier, and the Southern Ocean is therefore substantially a closed ecosystem.
The Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources came into force in 1982, as part of the Antarctic Treaty System, in pursuance of the provisions of Article IX of the Treaty.
It was established mainly in response to concerns that an increase in krill catches in the Southern Ocean could have a serious effect on populations of krill and other marine life; particularly on birds, seals and fish, which mainly depend on krill for food.

Afri Oceans Conservation Alliance Our Mission
AfriOceans Conservation Alliance is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa. Our mission is to promote the conservation, protection and sustainable utilization of Africa's marine resources.
Our Goals & Objectives
AOCA seeks to align and partner with organisations, scientists and environmentalists that subscribe to policies that promote sustainable marine conservation and development. AOCA develops and promotes training, education, awareness and science initiatives; it encourage government and corporate policies and practices that provide meaningful marine conservation, and calls upon all people, particularly the young, to aspire to the long-term conservation of the oceans off the African continent.
Our Programmes
In order to realize its mission AOCA is actively involved in programmes and products that encourage improved perceptions and attitudes toward wiser choices in our relationship with the oceans of Africa.
Currently these include:
Shark Conservation:
Save Our Seas Foundation M-Sea Programme (SOS Foundation M-Sea Programme)
Education and Training:

IFM-GEOMAR IFM-GEOMAR

Welcome to the Department of Marine Ecology
On this home page you will find information about the staff at the department and about ongoing research projects.
There is also information about GUMACC (Göteborg university Marine Culture) where you may order cultured marine microalgae, and links to check-lists for marine microalgae.
The Department of Marine Ecology has research and teaching activities at the Botany House in Gothenburg, and at the two field stations Kristineberg Marine Research Station and Tjärnö Marine Biological Laboratory.

International Census of Marine Microbes (ICOMM) The International Census of Marine Microbes (ICoMM) will facilitate the inventory of marine microbial diversity developing a strategy to (1) catalogue all known diversity of single-cell organisms inclusive of the Bacteria, Archaea, Protista and associated viruses, (2) to explore and discover unknown microbial diversity, and (3) to place that knowledge into appropriate ecological and evolutionary contexts.
To be successful, ICoMM must promote international cooperation and forge linkages with existing and new CoML field projects for collecting samples, contextual information and new technologies. ICoMM recognizes that projects currently underway or completed over the past decade will have an important impact on the census. Participation by principal investigators of current projects in the ICoMM initiative will accelerate progress and ultimately lead to an organized constituency for seeking funding from agencies and foundations. At the same time, ICoMM will engage the broader community of microbiologists with complementary interests in microbial diversity, evolution, biogeography and their functional roles in marine systems.

Larvalbase.org LarvalBase is a comprehensive information system on fish larvae that are relevant in the field of fisheries research and finfish aquaculture, combining traditional sources such as primary and “grey” literature. In addition, data from various sources as Internet and e.g. from practising aquaculturists, even in developing countries, are considered to be valuable for the database.
